A world record event to mark the National Day holiday

UAE National Day Domino Show Abu Dhabi

04.12.2018

After its huge success last year, Sinners Domino Entertainment recently teamed up with the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi again to host an even more spectacular event on the occasion of this year’s National Day of the United Arab Emirates.

Focusing on the founders of the UAE
The event aimed to set a domino world record for the first time ever in the history of the country. To achieve this, 90,000 dominoes were constructed by a six-member team in the capital city’s largest shopping centre over a period of just three days. The motif: a portrait of Sheikh Zayed, the founding father and first President of the United Arab Emirates. The record attempt in the category of “Most dominoes toppled in a circle field” formed part of the government’s official programme of events and incorporated the official “Year of Zayed” logo. It was designed to have a strong media impact and pay tribute to the liberal and modern legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2018.

A world record attempt for the “Most dominoes toppled in a circle field”
The Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel travelled to the event from London to ensure compliance with the international regulations. More than 80,432 dominoes needed to topple in order to beat the previous record set at the German Domino Record event in 2017. More than 1,000 spectators and members of the Royal Family attended the once-in-a-lifetime event. After Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the grandson of Sheikh Zayed and son of the current President, set the chain reaction in motion, it only took ten seconds for a total of precisely 89,995 dominoes to topple and break the world record.

Huge public interest
After mastering such a difficult challenge, the team of organisers was understandably relieved. “The event couldn’t have gone any smoother. This was the first time ever that such a detailed image had been depicted in a circle field of dominoes and it posed a completely new design challenge. Given the huge public interest in the attempt, there was no other choice than for this world record to be a success. Both we and all those responsible for the event at the Marina Mall can therefore be extremely satisfied with the result of this spectacular showcase”, declared Patrick Sinner, responsible for project implementation at Sinners Domino Entertainment.

“It was wonderful to watch such a unique record being set and a delight to witness the result of the team that had put its full concentration into setting up the dominoes over three days. This is a great achievement of which everyone should be proud” added Pravin Patel, the record adjudicator from Guinness World Records.
